We Are Kings And Priests

1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

The concept of the believer as a priest-king runs through the New Testament. The moment we come to Christ we experience a shift in status: from nobodies to royalty; from alienation to direct access to God. This is a fact for the present as well as reality for the future.

Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. (1 John 3:1,2)

Full manifestation of our status in Him may not be possible at the moment because of several factors, but in deference to His rule, we can exercise a great deal of authority right here and now. And when some day soon the Lord establishes His rule upon the earth, it will be our privilege to reign with Him in full dominion. John the apostle saw a revelation of this:

And they sang a new song: “Worthy are You to take the scroll and open its seals, because You were slain, and by Your blood You purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. You have made them into a kingdom, priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth. (Rev. 5:9,10)

We are priests and kings, called and chosen to serve Him, and to declare His praise! Priests must live in purity, and kings must walk in dignity. Keep this in mind today, and go honor Him in all your ways.
